The mission of this catalogue is to provide collectors with official  numbers for all the New Zealand Wine Post stamps. New for you on this site on the bottom of this page. Items for sale on our Stamps Direct. Go down the page and take a look at Stamps Direct.

New Zealand Wine Post is the independent postal operation of the World's Most Southern Winery which is recognized by Guinness Records. These two things make it of special interest to the collectors. Stamps are issued for the carriage of its correspondence and wine. As an Independent post, the wine post gained the right to use its own stamps in 1990 when New Zealand regulated it’s postal services. There are many other independent mail carriers of some interest to collectors in New Zealand but only a few issue stamps. The 100th catalogue number was assigned in 2024. In fact, the stamps history goes back to 1980 when stamps were used for the first winery. These stamps and related items are known as Forerunner issues which are given some attention here also. There are three types of stamp issues with their own assigned numbers-  Wine Post, Antarctica Post and Oceania Postage which does yet appear here.

Official Wine Post numbers are prefixed WP#. Antarctica Post stamps are prefixed AP#.  and Oceania Postage are prefixed ON#.

Some of the history can be gained with the more button on the menu that will take you to the full list of years and the article 'Orange Winebird' and some others. Use this STAMP METRO link or the link below to Jim Kyak's spectacular magazine blog for a broader look through specialist articles.

NEW ISSUES FOR 2025

ROXBURGH DAM

The Roxburgh Dam on the Clutha River in Otago. This stamp is derived from an artistic impression. It comes in a low value printed in blue and the high value printed in blue and gold. What is shown here is a cut from some printing tests and the values are only provisional and might change. There will be separate sheets for the two values. There will also be another stamp issued later on which features a multi color artistic impression of Mount Maude near lake Hawea in Otago.

For stamps that you can buy- including specialized topics, go to the Delcampe auction site. There are over 500 highly interesting philatelic items on the Oceania Store page with more constantly being added. A visit there will give you a very good oversight and is well worth a look. There are lots of different and unusual collecting items on Oceania's selling page.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT: Most issues have come with pictorial First Day Covers. Usually with pictorial postmarks. There also blocks postmarked with First Day of issue. There is an ever growing issue of small numbered Presentation Cards. They feature imperf printing of the stamps and are numbered. Not every issue is yet graced with a Presentation Card as they were first issued in 2009. But they are being back issued. These fit easier into your collection albums or filing boxes. Much of the proof, trial, varieties and errors, rejected stamps and design material also exists and can be perforated or imperf, gummed or not. This side of collecting is random and collectors are advised to send their wants to the email. Specimen over print stamps exist perforated or imperf. One project I am working is the magazine which will show off a variety of topics and stories. To give you some insight into this I recommend you go to the stamp metro link below.

Another good site is Virtual New Zealand stamps which also shows some of the other Independent mails. Although not finished, is is well worth a good look.

Don't forget to go to the magazine at Stamp Metro for good reading and lavish illustrations of the stamps and a look at all sorts of exciting stuff. There is also room there for you to comment and ask questions.
